La Laguna City of the World

The Laguna belongs to all inhabitants. Unesco's statement that gives this city to humanity goes beyond being a mere descriptive title, a mere mention of the benefits of a street layout that has not changed over the centuries. Is the world because it has remained alive. From the late fifteenth century people have walked the streets of all kinds, many times. The universal art and culture have taken over the story corner and although for some its true historical and cultural legacy is in buildings, roads and even a quiet walk by its geometry, the activity of several generations of thinkers, artists and patrons has helped enrich, more if possible, the heritage of this city of peace.

La Laguna is preserved in the world because hundreds of buildings with Moorish elements, because its original planning remains intact and that the innovative model from which arose at the time served as a reference for thousands of cities in later centuries. It is humanity by the Church of the Conception, by Lercaro Palace, the Church of Los Remedios, La Catedral, by their monasteries, hermitages and chapels, for the Teatro Leal in the church and former convent of San Agustin, and for all artistic gems that host these buildings.

These are just some examples that serve to reflect the distinct character of this city, a town that has preserved its tradition and heritage without sacrificing the use of property or the promotion of culture and commerce. Most of the treasures of its past are still tours daily by thousands of people: they have been converted into centers given talent, thought and history.

However, the contribution is not the end of the lagoon to art and knowledge. The southern part of the city hosts the first university in the Canary Islands, an educational center through which passes each year a crowd of students from the islands and across Europe. This institution has shaken the life of the city, opening to the outside and to prolong youth. Can you ask more of a city?
