Providing health

Tourists come from countries that are members of the European Union and countries with EU regulation (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland) will need the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to receive healthcare in the Canaries. You can purchase this card at the health institution belonging to their country of origin.

The doctors and private hospitals in Spain do not accept the TSE. To receive medical care at such centers, they must pay these expenses on their own or take out insurance covering them. If you miss the TSE must pay hospital costs, doctors and pharmacists in advance and ask your agency affiliation reimbursement of expenses provided by submitting invoices.

The tourists from Andorra, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru will need a special certificate from their country of origin to receive health care in Spain. If you forget the license, must pay the hospital costs, doctors and pharmacists in advance and its affiliate agency will reimburse submitting invoices.

If you come from a country other than the above will have to pay for health care, so you are advised to purchase health insurance.

In any case, I encourage you to learn, through its affiliate organization, the existing requirements to be met to receive health care in Spain.

To travel to the Canary Islands is not necessary to be vaccinated against any disease, although, like anywhere in the world, it is recommended to have updated tetanus shot if you are going to be in touch with nature and the countryside.

Medicines can be purchased at pharmacies, whose trading symbol identifier is a green cross. Remember that it is the doctor who will prescribe in each case treatment.
